The Longhouse
The classic lines of the Longhouse reflect the indigenous beauty of prehistoric architecture. The tradition of the Longhouse spans both time and culture, from the Canadian Iroquois, the Vikings the Anglo-Saxons to the ancient Celts, the Longhouse has represented strength, warmth and security.

The Longhouse offered by All Round Buildings, combines the natural strength and beauty of traditional timber frame construction, with the performance, durability and comfort associated with modern timber technology.

The Longhouse is constructed from sustainable resources of home grown timber. Conifer thinnings are bent while fresh to form pre-stressed timber frames, which are then assembled on site where we complete construction and interior fitting. The frames of the Longhouse are bolted to pressure treated timber pile foundations, raising the structure of the ground. This ensures continual ventilation of the building and eliminates durability problems associated with ground contact.

The Longhouse is fully insulated and double glazed, with both a fully glazed end wall and generous roof lights giving a spacious light and comfortable living space, ideal for all year round use. The curved timber frames of the Longhouse are exposed internally; a backdrop of non-combustible prlasterboard both compliments the natural beauty of the wood and gives a class O fire rating. Treated, exterior timber cladding is laid over a reinforced breathing membrane to ensure a healthy, weather reesistant and natural finish. This unique breathing wall minimizes internal condensation problems.

The enclosed drawings a floor plan represent a 10.8m x 6.6m (70m2) building, suitable for disabled access. The length of the building can be increased by 2m incements to allow additional bedrooms etc. The standard unit comprises an open plan living room / kitchen area, double bedroom, utility area, toilet/shower room. Due to the flexible nature of the design the floor plan can be altered to meet individual requirements.
